JCR Bar Nights in Central

Semi-regularly, the JCR will host a themed ‘bar night’. These events are casual and relaxed and revolve around offering a different approach to community dining, with a high-quality buffet, an exciting theme and a variety of live music. Often the Bar Nights are inspired by the different international holiday cultural groups we have within Stephenson College.

In the past we have hosted an Indian Bar Night, Masquerade Balls, and our annual Oktoberfest!

Christmas pARTY

Towards the end of Michaelmas term , we celebrated the start of the festive period in style with a Christmas party in Central!

Students were able to enjoy the Christmas-y decorations, plentiful mulled wine, and tasty Yorkshire pudding wraps, which put an intriguing spin on everyone’s favourite festive foods!

The night wouldn’t have been complete without some music, and our Christmas party featured the Quay’s, one of Durham’s favourite student bands. Truly a great way to finish off the term!

Oktoberfest

Our first Bar Night of the year brought the legendary German festival of Oktoberfest to Stephenson Central.

Decked out in Bavarian white and blue decorations and banners our students enjoyed getting together for a night of good vibes.

As part of the deal, attendees received a free Stein beer glass which they could use to drink their pints! An all-around great evening to kick off the year!

Indian Bar Night

In collaboration with Durham’s Indian Society, Stevo hosted our first ever Indian Bar Night. Attendees were treated to a buffet of high-quality Indian food, including Samosas, Paneer Tikka, Lamb Kebab, Chicken Tikka, and Gulab Jamun, all provided by local restaurant Holi and Bhang and all very tasty!

We also enjoyed a selection of Indian music, performed by some students from the Indian Society which was very enjoyable.

Halloween

Lots goes on at Stephenson for the spooky season.

Our students had a chance to try their hand at pumpkin carving on Saltwell, which resulted in some very creative designs and was particularly popular amongst our international student community!

For the Halloween weekend, students were encouraged to come down to Stevo Central in their costumes on the Saturday, whilst Sunday evening featured a Halloween quiz and pumpkin auction from our very popular quiz society!
